Empathic movement Classes

Thank you for your interest in our classes! Our Empathic Movement Classes are currently ON PAUSE while Alex is in school, but you can find more info about our classes by scrolling down.

However, we DO have a portal of over 300 of our live class recordings and still offer 1-1 coaching.

Check out our Empathy on Demand hub here.

True to their name, these classes are all about combining empathy with fitness. Rather than stereotypical gyms that may encourage “pushing harder” or “no days off”, these classes are all about listening to your own body and needs. You’ll see workouts you may get at a typical gym (squats, push ups, etc.) as well as yoga and skill practice, but the focus is on three things:

1) Listening to your body and mind before and above anything (or anyone) else.

2) Learning how to move technically well while tailoring each movement to meet your individual needs and goals.

3) Actually having fun and loving yourself for exactly who you are and where you’re at!

frequently asked questions about our classes

“I haven’t worked out in some time (or ever) and don’t know what I’m doing. Am I going to feel safe as a newcomer to these classes?”

YES. While we love athletes, our classes are not for those who love a militant fitness environment. We teach all movements, hold lots of space for questions, and provide modifications for all levels. Our goal is for you to learn HOW to move properly and have fun doing it. We also regularly encourage lying on the floor or leaving class completely if that’s what you need!

“Who is your ‘typical’ member? I want to make sure I feel like I’ll belong.”

We deeply appreciate belonging and want you to know that our classes are open to absolutely everyone. With that said, we would describe our typical clientele as any/all of the following: the person who had a bad experience in gym class growing up, the human who feels anxious and out of place at large “globo gyms,” and/or the individual who regularly puts other peoples’ needs before their own and is looking for a place where they can be taken care of for a change. Our members ages range from early 30’s to mid-60’s.

“Will I need equipment for class?”

Your choice! While free weights (dumbbells or kettlebells) are used by our coaches and many of our class members, they are not required. We recommend adding weight by using a backpack loaded with your choice of books if you do want to add weight but don’t want to invest in free weights. Our coaches are also completely prepared to give you body weight options for any movement.

“What can I expect when I join my first class?”

We love this question. We always start the class with a physical and mental “check in” (and in our Vent & Sweat classes we even start with a few minutes of “venting time” where the floor is open to any and all feelings that our community feels safe expressing). We ask everyone how they’re doing from a thumbs up to a sliding thumbs down physically and mentally, which gives us an idea of how to coach you that day. If it’s your first class, we will ALWAYS check in personally with you, introduce you to the group, and talk you through how all the tech works. We’ll then review the workout plan for the day, and your coach will visually and verbally lead you through the whole class with LOTS of time for questions. You’ll never be left stranded. We like to create as safe an environment as possible to explore movement and, best of all, have fun!
